Driver flees after hitting woman in Wenatchee crosswalk

Wenatchee police are searching for a driver who hit a 57-year-old woman while she was crossing 5th Street at Emerson Avenue about 5 p.m. Monday.

The woman was transported to Central Washington Hospital with an apparent broken ankle.

Wenatchee Police Sergeant Tim Lykken said the vehicle fled after hitting the woman, who was in the crosswalk on the east side of the street.

The victim’s son said that in addition to a broken ankle his mother suffered minor fractures in her back and a broken rib.

He said she will undergo surgery today but it appears she will be OK.

Lykken said police would be releasing information later on the suspected vehicle.
