Downed trees force closure of Stevens Pass; traffic being stopped at Coles Corner

Highway 2 has been closed from the summit to Coles Corner while downed trees are cleared by the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Falling trees are just the latest problem at Stevens Pass, with heavy snow requiring chains on all but four-wheel-drive vehicles most of the day.

Westbound traffic is being stopped at milepost 84 at Coles Corner and eastbound traffic is being stopped two miles east of the summit.

There is no estimated time for reopening the pass, so WSDOT is recommending motorists use alternate routes.

Currently, Blewett Pass has snow, slush and ice on the roadway and it is snowing. Traction tires are advised.

The roadway on Snoqualmie Pass is bare and wet with no restrictions.
