Douglas County Sheriff’s Office vehicle involved in collision this morning

The Washington State Patrol is investigating a collision this morning involving a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office cruiser and another vehicle.

Both Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Groseclose, 54, and the driver of the other vehicle, Matthew Michelsen, 35, of East Wenatchee suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization, the State Patrol said.

About 10:15 a.m., Groseclose was driving his marked sheriff’s office vehicle with its lights and siren on north on Highway 28, Sunset Highway, when he entered the intersection with Eastmont Avenue on a red light.

His 2016 Ford Explorer hit the driver’s side of Michelsen’s 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, which was crossing the intersection on a green light heading toward the Odabashian Bridge, the State Patrol said.

Trooper John Bryant said the sheriff’s office requested that WSP investigate. The results of that investigation will be turned over to the sheriff, who will determine what, if any, action will be taken, he said.

“Right now there are no citations,” Bryant said. “Any time you have a government vehicle or law enforcement we send out the collision technical specialist who will do a much more detailed investigation on the incident.”
