Waste Management’s plans to import Canadian garbage to its East Wenatchee landfill was the subject of a Douglas County Commissioner’s public hearing Monday.

The meeting was well attended with testimony being received at the Commissioners Waterville chambers and from the County’s East Wenatchee 19th Street annex. Commissioner Steve Jenkins says the main issue revolves around potential threats to the tree fruit industry from trash hauled into the East Wenatchee landfill from outside the area.

Jenkins says the public hearing has been continued to November 6th for a final decision. Between now and then the Commissioners will be discussing the matter with the Quincy Port District and Okanogan County Commissioners.
