Debris finally being hauled away from Slide Ridge area

Delayed by yet another mudslide last week, a contractor on Monday began cleaning up the mess left behind by Slide Ridge off Lake Chelan’s South Lake Shore Road.

Batchelor Excavating of Manson last week was set to begin hauling away about 8,500 cubic yards of debris from a July slide.

But on Tuesday, the day before they were to begin work, more debris came pouring down.

County crews cleared the roadway but it was closed for two days.

That was one of several problems encountered by the county after late summer rainstorms, including two sinkholes in the Burch Mountain Road area.

Those have since been repaired.

In addition, county crews this week have been repairing washouts on several roads, including Entiat River Road.
