The death of an inmate earlier this month in the Chelan County Regional Justice Center is being investigated by the North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit.
The Wenatchee Police Department said in a press release today that Joseph A. Verville, 38 of East Wenatchee died Sept. 7 while being held at the jail on an outstanding warrant.
He was first booked into the jail Sept. 5 after being detained by Wenatchee police.
Verville was being held in in a single holding cell equipped with video surveillance, according to the press release.
“The cause of death appears to be medical, but is not conclusive, the investigation unit said. “Investigators are still waiting for toxicology results from the Washington State Patrol Toxicology Laboratory which may provide additional information.”
Ballard Ambulance responded to a cardiac incident at the jail at 9:34 a.m. on Sept. 7, according to RiverCom call logs.
The North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit is a multi-jurisdictional team with representatives from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, East Wenatchee Police Department, Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, Wenatchee Police Department, and the Washington State Patrol.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency for this incident.
