Update: Vantage Wildfire

VANTAGE, WA.- Firefighters from around the State have been mobilized to respond to the Vantage area where a large brush fire threatens homes and infrastructure. The so-called Milepost 22 Fire, is burning in sage and brush about 2 miles north of Vantage in Kittitas County.  It started around 5:15 in the afternoon and had spread now to an estimated 4 or 5-thousand acres as of noon today. Level 2 evacuation orders are in effect at this time.

Kittitas County Sheriff’s office provided these images of successful burnout operations last night along Recreation Road. The fire is still active and spreading north of the Vantage Hwy. The Vantage Hwy will remain closed from Parke Creek Rd to Vantage to allow fire crews to mop up. A Type 3 incident management team of 275 firefighters took over management of the fire today. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
