Commercial structure fire call turns out to be burning marijuana

Firefighters were called out Wednesday night to a report of a commercial structure fire in the Malaga area.

It turned out not to be a structure but instead two apple bins containing marijuana clippings that caught fire next to a commercial grower’s green house in the 3900 block of Malaga/Alcoa Highway.

An official with Chelan County Fire District One says crews were able to put the fire out before it threatened any neighboring structures.

The cause is under investigation but officials suspect it could have been spontaneously combusted. Douglas County District 2 crews also assisted.
