A recent survey of Chelan County PUD customers shows 62-percent said the proposed consolidation of the Wenatchee-area operations into one location at Olds Station would not affect them.

The survey was the result of a month-long public outreach effort by the PUD to hear from community stakeholders.

PUD Shared Service Director, Dan Fraser says the $124-million combined service center is the most cost-effective and long-term least-cost option for the PUD and its customers.

PUD General Manager, Steve Wright added that from a funding perspective, the project pencil’s out.

“We are in a position at this point, with money set aside, to be able to neutralize even that difference,” Wright said. “From our perspective hopefully it looks like a clear choice but we will wait to see what the public has to say.”

PUD staff also is working with the City of Wenatchee and Port of Chelan County to study potential future uses of the PUD’s property at Fifth Street and Wenatchee Avenue.

Each of them has committed up to $75,000 for redevelopment planning focused on creating viable options for future use of the property.
