Just before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Orondo firefighters and Chelan firefighters responded mutual aid with Mansfield firefighters to the report of a structure fire up McNeil Canyon. The reporting party heard explosions and saw smoke.
On arrival, they found a large fire consisting of two vehicles, building materials and personal property. Additionally, the fire had spread into a grass fire moving up a hillside. Immediately, the three departments engaged the fire by first containing the spread of the grass fire, then protecting two mobile homes and undamaged vehicles and extinguishing the remainder of the fire.
One person was treated at the scene. It is believed to have started due to a malfunctioning vehicle that spread to vegetation and then through the location.
