Chelan County’s Sheriff’s Office’s K9 Ruben needs surgery for cancer

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office says K9 officer Ruben has been diagnosed with cancer and the department is asking the community for help paying for his surgery and future treatments.

Ruben is a narcotics detection dog who joined the force in 2016.

The sheriff’s office said Ruben needs surgery to remove a tumor on his right rear leg so the cancer won’t spread.

The sheriff’s office’s K9 program is funded primarily through donations.

Donations to assist with Ruben’s care can be dropped off or mailed to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office at 401 Washington Street, Suite 1, Wenatchee, Washington, 98801.

Ruben, who was named after a longtime undersheriff with the department, remains on duty while awaiting surgery.

Already in 2020, Ruben has had 61 calls for service and 56 positive alerts, assisting numerous law enforcement agencies in the region, the sheriff’s office said.
