Steve Wright, the outgoing general manager of the Chelan County PUD, has received a lifetime achievement award as a champion of energy efficiency.

Wright’s award from the Alliance To Save Energy recognizes his work on efficiency at the PUD, where he’s led since 2013, and the Bonneville Power Administration, which he headed for 12 years.

The Alliance’s Charles H. Percy Award recognizes Wright’s efforts at energy efficiency over his 40-year career. He’ll retire from the Chelan County utility at the end of this year.

“This award from the Alliance to Save Energy is our energy efficiency community’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize, and Steve richly deserves it,” said Ralph Cavanagh, the energy program co-director of the Natural Resources Defense Council.

In a press release, the alliance Wright challenged the energy efficiency team at Chelan PUD to double their energy savings goals and over time, the PUD “met that challenge with a variety of customer-focused programs, including a partnership with local governments to help save money and save energy with facility upgrades.”
