Chelan County Fire District to release 300 goats behind Wenatchee’s Broadview neighborhood

In an effort to reduce fuels and limit the spread of wildfires, Chelan County Fire District 1 will let around 300 goats loose on hillsides behind the Broadview neighborhood of Wenatchee at the end of the month. Fire Chief Brian Brett says they will allow the goats to chew away sections of hillside vegetation to help reduce fire fuels.

Four years ago, the Sleepy Hollow Fire destroyed twenty-eight homes in the Broadview neighborhood during the Sleepy Hollow Fire. Releasing the goats will help reduce chances of similar brush fires.
