Chelan and Douglas County Port Commissioners are slated to vote in two weeks on an agreement to blend operations under one management umbrella. Chelan County Port Executive Director, Jim Kuntz says the two agencies recently met in a joint session where they fielded public comments on the proposed functional consolidation.
Kuntz says the two boards of commissioners will take formal action on a proposed interlocal agreement on June 11th. If all goes according to plan, the two ports would operate as one starting January first. Under the plan the two ports would remain intact, but would operate under one budget and one executive director to oversee a shared staff. It’s estimated that the consolidation would result in an annual savings of over half a million dollars.
