Chelan and Douglas Counties’ Port Consolidation public hearing set for Wednesday

Wednesday is your opportunity to sound off on plans to consolidate Chelan and Douglas County Port Districts into a regional port authority. Commissioners with both districts have set a special joint board meeting for Wednesday evening at the Confluence Technology Center. The so-called functional consolidation of the two ports is expected to save about 500 thousand dollars a year in operational costs.

A task force of local elected and business leaders recommended the action as a way to address port costs as well as future improvements at Pangborn Airport. Chelan Port Commissioner, Rory Turner says he anticipates a smooth transition if the consolidation goes forward.

The Wednesday public hearing starts at 5:30 p.m. at the CTC. Written comments are also accepted into the record. A final vote by the two respective boards will follow at a later date.
