Cascade Downs Overlake 2-0 in Soccer Playoffs

2nd Half Goals by Lauren Richardson and Alexa Rodgers helped Cascade advance to the Final Four.

WENATCHEE, WA – Cascade advanced to the Final Four of the State 1A Soccer Tournament with Saturday’s 2-0 win over Overlake in Wenatchee.  After a scoreless first half, the Kodiaks continued to put the pressure on Overlake throughout the second half, until they found paydirt.

Emily Gaines moved the ball up the left side, getting past a defender and placing a nice, left-legged centering kick for a header by Ashley Parton. After a deflection off the goalkeeper, Lauren Richardson tapped it in for a 1-nothing Cascade lead.

Then, just 2-minutes later, Richardson, on a free kick, lofted a ball toward the goal that the keeper couldn’t track and Alexa Rodgers tapped the loose ball in for a 2-nil lead.  The wind seemed to go out of Overlake’s sails at that point and Cascade just kept moving the ball around, running out the clock in the 2-0 victory.

Cascade advances to play LaSalle in the Final Four Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium.
