Brewster crash yields case of vehicular homicide

UPDATE: The deceased victim was identified Wednesday afternoon as Peggy Anne Griffin, 59, of Manson.

BREWSTER — Police are investigating Tuesday’s fatal head-on crash near Brewster as a case of vehicular homicide.

The two-car collision occurred at 9:30 am on US Highway 97 and Highway 17, about five miles north of Brewster. Washington State Patrol Trooper John Bryant says the driver of the Honda CR-V that was struck by the suspect vehicle – a 59-year old Manson woman – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, 37-year-old Kai Michael Marcellay of Brewster, and his passenger, 33-year-old Brian Wade Dougherty of Okanogan, were transported the Three Rivers Hospital.

Marcellay faces charges of vehicular homicide. Troopers said he was traveling north on Highway 97 when he illegally passed another vehicle and struck Griffin head-on.
