Blewett Pass crash claims life of Ellensburg man.

One person is dead and two others injured in a two-car collision that halted traffic  last night on the Kittitas County side of US 97 Blewett Pass. State Troopers say it happened a little after 7 pm near the Swauk Campground.

Troopers say 24 year old Jacob McDonald of Ellensburg died at Central Washington Hospital from injuries sustained after he lost control of his GMC Canyon while driving Northbound on the highway about 24 miles north of Ellensburg.

His vehicle struck a car driven by 43 year old Jeremy Long of Pasco. Long and his passenger, also from Pasco, were transported to Central Washington Hospital for treatment.

Trooper John Bryant says  McDonald was driving too fast for the snowy road conditions. Bryant warns motorists to slow down after troopers respond to several traffic accidents over the last 12 hours on the same icy stretch of roadway. . .

Last night’s crash shut down US 97 Blewett Pass for about two hours during the investigation.
