Bend Cashes in on Wenatchee Errors in 5-0 Win

WENATCHEE, WA – Bend broke open a close game with 4-unearned runs in the 8th inning, capitalizing on 3 Wenatchee errors, to down the AppleSox 5-0 Thursday…
Wenatchee has now committed 30 gaffs defensively so far this summer, 5th most in the West Coast League.

The game was scoreless until the top of the 7th when Bend broke through on Alex Pallios’ RBI-single. Then in the 8th, Collin Runge plated two runs with a two-out triple…

Despite trailing 5-nothing in the 9th, Wenatchee attempted a rally and loaded the bases for the Wednesday night hero, Cory Meyer…

Wenatchee fell to 8-and-12 with the loss as the Elks took two of three in the series to improve to 7-and-17. The AppleSox are off until tomorrow night when they’ll host the Northwest Academy in a game at 7:05.

Jake Moberg was 2-for-2 with 3-RBI’s in Yakima Valley’s 6-3 win over Cowlitz.

Drew Williams’ RBI single in the bottom of the 8th proved to be the game-winner as Kelowna edged Port Angeles 7-6. The Falcons completed the 3-game sweep and handed the Lefties their 4th loss in a row.

Zander Clarke was 4-for-6 with a run and 2-RBI’s to help power Portland past Corvallis 13-5.

On tap tonight in the W-C-L it’s Walla Walla at Corvallis; Cowlitz hosting Port Angeles; Kelowna at Victoria; Yakima Valley hosts Bellingham; and Bend travels to Portland.

Rams Host Nighthawks, Granduro this Weekend

There’s plenty going on this weekend on the Sports Schedule…
It began yesterday and runs through Sunday…it’s the State All Star 11U and 12U Baseball Tournament being hosted by Eastmont Youth Baseball at the Eastmont Community Fourplex.

Mission Ridge is the start and finish point for the Mission Granduro Race. The long course is 46.1-miles while the short course is 29.7-miles. The Mission Granduro is all tomorrow at Mission Ridge.

The Wenatchee Rams look to remain undefeated in Western Washington Alliance Football play Saturday when its hosts the South Sound Nighthawks. Kickoff at Lee Bofto Field at the Apple Bowl is 6 o’clock.

Appleatchee is a busy place once again this weekend for horse riders with the Games Show and July 4th Roping competition. It runs through Sunday.

And not to be forgotten, Salmon fishing opens on the Upper Columbia Sunday for Chinook and Sockeye Salmon. The dam counts looks good at least for the opener for angles to catch plenty of hatchery Chinook and sockeye this weekend. Indications are there may even be enough sockeye in the system to have an opener later on Lake Wenatchee!!

Seattle Sweeps Baltimore with 4-2 Win, Go .500 on Road

Dee Gordon led off the 10th with a single and scored on Jean Segura’s single to center that was mishandled by Baltimore’s center fielder, and the Mariners went on for a 4-2 win…
Nelson Cruz got the Mariners on the board first today in the 4th with a two run homer, his 21st of the season. The Orioles tied it in the bottom of the 4th on solo home runs by Manny Machado and Chris Davis. Mike Leake got a no-decision today, going 7-innings, allowing 2-runs on 5-hits with 6 strikeouts.

Seattle is now 8-and-oh in extra-inning games as they also went 11 last night in an 8-7 win.

The Mariners return home to face Kansas City tonight at 7:10 at Safeco Field with Marco Gonzalez going up against Ian Kennedy.

Oakland finished off an 8-and-2 road trip with a sweep of Detroit after Thursday’s 4-2 win.
Lance McCullers, Jr. threw 7-shutout innings as Houston beat Tampa Bay 1-nil.
Hector Velazquez improved to 6-and-oh with Boston’s 4-2 win over the Angels.
