Avalanche prep work on Stevens Pass to cause traffic delays

Travelers will face delays crossing over U.S. 2 Stevens Pass starting tomorrow due to summertime avalanche prep work.

DOT contractors are building a berm to deflect snow slides from the highway near Tunnel Creek, west of the summit.

Most of the work is above the roadway but intermittent daytime closures of up to 30 minutes may be needed for rock blasting.

During the closures, eastbound traffic will be stopped just east of the junction with Old Cascade Highway. Westbound traffic will be stopped at the summit.

The work is expected to be completed next month.
