Wenatchee AppleSox Poised for Playoff Push

WENATCHEE, WA – The Wenatchee AppleSox completed its first series sweep of the season Sunday with an 11-4 win over the Victoria HarbourCats…
Connor McCord allowed one earned run over seven innings to pick up the victory. He also batted cleanup and helped his own cause in the cleanup roll, driving in three.
Leading 6-4 in the 8th, Wenatchee decided to score some insurance runs and put the game away…


Video Courtesy the AppleSox Facebook LIVE feed. Wenatchee improved to 14-and-11 with the win and remain a game-and-a-half back of Yakima Valley for the final playoff spot. The Pippins finish the schedule with a three-game series at Corvallis while the AppleSox now head to Kelowna to wrap up the season with the Falcons.

Taking a look at the Les Schwab Scoreboard for the rest of the West Coast League…
Nick DiCarlo, Cameron Campbell, Tyler Lasch and Chris Arpan all homered to lead Yakima Valley to a 9-3 win at Walla Walla. The Pippins lost 2-of-3 to the Sweets and are 15-and-9 and lead the second-half standings.

Brody Barnum’s bases-loaded fielder’s choice scored Sam Novitske in the top of the 11th and Portland popped Port Angeles 5-4. The Pickles will meet Corvallis in the W-C-L South playoffs.

Matt McClain was 2-for-4 with a run and 2-RBI’s to lead Bellingham to a 4-2 win over Kelowna Sunday. Thanks to the Bell’s first place finish in the first half of the season, they’re already in the North Division playoffs. Bellingham waits to see if they’ll face Wenatchee or Yakima Valley in the post-season.

Kolby Somers and two relievers allowed 1-run on 4-hits in Corvallis’ 4-1 win over Cowlitz. Chandler Anderson led the way offensively for the Knights, going 3-for-5 and scoring a run.
Ian Nowack was 3-for-5 including a 3-run home run to lead Bend to an 11-6 non-league win over Gresham to wrap up the regular season.

On the West Coast League Schedule today…
Yakima Valley play at Corvallis at 6pm. Cowlitz hosts Walla Walla; Wenatchee’s at Kelowna and Victoria hosts Portland, all at 6:35.

Wenatchee 12U Team 2-2 at World Series

After stumbling out of the gate at the Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series on Friday, Wenatchee bounced back over the weekend…
Representing the Pacific Northwest, the Wenatchee 12U team lost its opener to the host team, Phenix City, Alabama 10-1 and then the Virginia State Champs 17-5 Friday. Then Saturday, Wenatchee shut out China 12-0 and won 4-1 over Middle Atlantic Sunday. The tournament finishes pool play today to determine seeding for bracket play tomorrow.

Wenatchee Rams Weather Kitsap Storm 50-12 in Playoffs

The Wenatchee Rams continued its winning ways Saturday in the first round of the Western Washington Football Alliance playoffs…
The Rams had no trouble weathering the Kitsap Storm, winning 50-to-12. Next up is a second-round playoff game this Saturday at Lee Bofto Field at the Apple Bowl at 6 o’clock.

Cashmere’s Wagner Shares Washington State Open Title

Paiton and her playing partner Chloe Goiette won the doubles title in Seattle at the Washington State Open, played at the Seattle Tennis Club. For their efforts, Paiton and Chloe split a check for $2,000. Wagner is readying for his second year at the University of Oregon. Go Ducks!

Mariners Snap 5-Game Losing Streak with 6-3 Win

The Mariners finally awakened the bats in the series finale with Toronto Sunday, blasting three home runs in a 6-3 victory that snapped a 5-game losing streak…
Kyle Seager homered twice and Nelson Cruz hit his 29th home run of the season while driving in 4-runs to lead the Mariners. Toronto ended up taking three out of the four games in Seattle as the Mariners continued to see their post-season hopes fade.

Speaking of, let’s check the Les Schwab Scoreboard for the rest of the American League West…
Trevor Cahill and three relievers combined on a 5-hit shutout of Detroit as Oakland won AGAIN, downing the Tigers 6-nothing. The A’s have won 6-straight after the weekend sweep of Detroit and now lead Seattle by 2-and-a-half games for the American League’s final Wild Card playoff spot. And, after the Red Sox swept the Yankees, Oakland trails New York by just 2.5 games for the first Wild Card playoff spot.

Jose Ramirez smacked his MLB-lead-tying 33rd home run to lead Cleveland to a 4-3 win over the Angels.

Mark Trumbo belted a pair of 2-run home runs to lead Baltimore to a 9-6 win over Texas.
Brian Dozier had a two-run double in the first inning and Cody Bellinger’s RBI double in the 3rd was the difference as the Dodgers salvaged the series finale Sunday against Houston 3-2.

Wilson Throws 4 Touchdown Passes in Seahawks Game

The Seahawks held a mock game Saturday during training camp with the first-team offense scoring on all four drives, all on passes by Russell Wilson. Afterwards, Wilson was asked about working with Brandon Marshall, who caught a touchdown pass in the game…


The Seahawks are preparing to host the Indianapolis Colts Thursday night at CenturyLink Field in the pre-season opener for both teams.
