Trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 9th, Wenatchee made a comeback bid as JT Swartz got aboard with a leadoff walk. One out later, Jake Taylor battled through a 10-pitch at-bat to make things interesting.

A valiant effort in the 9th goes for not as Wenatchee falls 4-2. Steen Frederickson takes the loss, allowing both of Holmstrom’s home runs in 4-innings. John Sage had a good night at the plate for the AppleSox, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Bend starter RJ Robles gets the win, going 5-innings allowing 1-run on 3-hits with 9 strikeouts.

The two teams meet again tonight at 7:05 with Wenatchee’s Dawson Day facing the Elks’ Drew Zmuda.

Bells Remain Atop West Coast League North Division

On the Les Schwab Scoreboard in the West Coast League last night…
Portland unleashed 21-hits, including 8-extra base hits and 3-home runs, in its 17-to-2 thrashing of Corvallis.

Nick DiCarlo was 3-for-4 with 3-runs, a double and an RBI to lead Yakima Valley past Cowlitz 11-to-3.

Drew Williams had an RBI single in a 4-run 5th inning as Kelowna beat Port Angeles 6-to-2. Williams ended the night 3-for-5 with a run. In three games this week, the freshman from Hollister, California is 9-for-14 with 5-runs driven in and a .643 batting average!

Jordan Hovey’s 3-run home run erased a 1-run deficit and powered Walla Walla past Victoria 6-to-1.

And in the only non-league game last night, Bellingham pounded out 19-hits including a home run by Zack Needham in a 13-2 win over the Seattle Wallbangers.

On tap tonight it’s Portland at Corvallis; Yakima Valley hosting Cowlitz; Victoria at Walla Walla; Kelowna hosting Port Angeles; and in a non-leaguer, the Highline Bears are at Bellingham.

Seager Powers Mariners Past Orioles in 3-2 Victory

Kyle Seager drove in all three Seattle runs with a home run and a two-run single as the Mariners beat Baltimore 3-2 last night…
The Orioles grabbed the early lead when former Mariner Danny Valencia homered off Seattle starter James Paxton in the 2nd. Seager tied it in the 4th on his 14th home run of the season. Then in the 8th with the bases loaded, Seager singled to center field to score Dee Gordon and Jean Segura to take the lead. Edwin Diaz came on in the 9th and earned his 29th save after a 1-out single by Valencia.

James Paxton earned his 7th win of the season, going 7-innings, allowing 2-runs on 6-hits with 10-strikeouts. Manager Scott Servais, with Florida George Line playing in the background, says he continues to be impressed by Paxton’s grit and determination…

Seattle will send Wade LeBlanc to the mound today to face Baltimore’s Alex Cobb at 4:05 this afternoon.

Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Christian Vazquez and J.D. Martinez all hit home runs in Boston’s 9-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Jed Lowrie’s fourth hit of the night gave Oakland the lead in the 9th in a game where they came back from being six runs down to beat Detroit 9-7.

San Diego scored 3-runs in the 8th to come from behind and beat Texas 3-2 at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

And Charlie Morton struck out 13 to get to 10-wins on the season as the Astros beat the Blue Jays in Houston 7-nothing.
