The Honkers scored first on an RBI-double by Ethan Lincecum and a balk called with a runner at third on starting pitcher Sam Wong to make it 2-nothing.

Nicasio Blows Lead, Mariners Earn Split with Astros

The Mariners came back against Houston last night to take the lead, only to see it disappear with a blown save by Juan Nicasio in a 7-5 decision at Minute Maid Park…
Trailing 3-2 in the top of the 7th, Seattle’s Denard Span hit his first homer in the Mariner’s uniform to tie it. Then the M’s took the lead on an RBI single by Jean Segura. On came Nicasio in relief in the bottom of the 7th only to surrender back-to-back-to-back-to-back hits. By the time it was done, Houston had scored 4-runs and had retaken the lead 7-4.

Kyle Seager would homer in the 8th and Seattle got two on with Nelson Cruz at the plate in the 9th, but Hector Rondon struck him out to end the ballgame at 7-5.
Manager Scott Servais said Nicasio didn’t pitch badly…Houston just kept getting hits!

Seattle now heads to Tampa Bay to face the Rays today at 4:10 with Mike Leake going up against Ryan Stanek.

As we look at the American League West, Les Schwab Scoreboard…
We see the Mariner’s lead in the West has shrunken to one game with last night’s loss to Houston. Texas beat Oakland 8-2 and the Angels held off a late rally to top Kansas City 4-3. Los Angeles is four games behind Seattle in the West while Oakland is 7-and-a-half games back.
