Apple Industry Leader Eyes Idled Alcoa Smelter for Future Fruit Processing Facility

Alcoa’s idled smelter in Wenatchee could be used in the future to help the area’s tree fruit industry. Stemilt Growers president, West Mathison suggested that as a possible way to lure more fruit processing businesses to the area and meet the challenges of marketing  increased crop production .


Mathison joined State Senator Brad Hawkins and Chelan County PUD General Manager Steve Wright in a panel discussion focusing on economic development at today’s Chelan County Port District-hosted breakfast program.
