Candidate Maria Elena Metzger 2019-02-07

Maria Elena is the daughter of Gary and Helen Metzger. Maria Elena is one of the five officers on her high school’s varsity dance team, The Apple-Ettes. She has been in a position of leadership for two years now; representing her school as an Apple-Ette for her third and final year. Maria has been involved as an Ignite Leader for her school, worked at concession stands for athletic games and participated in a suicide prevention walk for “Be The Light”. For two years, Maria Elena volunteered with The Light the Loop Trail, and is employed seasonally at Stemilt. In her spare time she loves to reconnect with old friends, she is always dancing, enjoying her passion for makeup and spending time with family. After graduation, Maria Elena plans to major in social psychology and continue dance.

Maria Elena’s favorite TV show is Friends and her favorite movie is The Greatest Showman. Her favorite song is “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol and her favorite novel is In Darkness by Nick Lake. She is most inspired by her older cousin Lara and her most treasured keepsake is a ring that she never takes off, given to her by her father.

Maria Elena’s favorite thing to do in the Wenatchee Valley, besides Apple Blossom, is to experience as many shops and restaurants downtown as possible. Her proudest moment was when she became a part of something bigger than herself, her dance team she calls a sisterhood. If Maria could trade places with someone for a day, it would be her hardworking mother. Maria Elena feels that she should represent the Wenatchee Valley because she was born and raised into this community with Apple Blossom always being the culminating event of the year. She believes that it would give her the opportunity to show residents of Wenatchee Valley the true meaning of coming together as a whole town and lead the Valley as a good example.
