Meet Top 10 Candidate Citlali Gonzalez-Orroyo

Candidate Citlali Gonzalez Arroyo 2019-02-05

Citlali is the daughter of Candelario and Albertina Gonzalez. Citlali is part of National Honor’s Society, an active competitor in Skills USA for the Firefighting Program, and has been part of Sign Idol and Sounds of Silence with her high school and Wenatchee Valley College ASL Club. Citlali has participated in the ASL Christmas Caroling trip around the senior centers in the Valley and in the summer, has worked at Van Well Nursery. In her spare time, she enjoys crafty art projects, exploring new foods, and translating her favorite songs into ASL. After graduation, Citlali plans to join the US Forest Service and work as a wild land firefighter while continuing her studies to become a paramedic firefighter.

Citlali’s favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy and her favorite movie is Coco. Her favorite song at the moment is “Again” by Kehlani and her favorite novel is The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas. She is most inspired by her family and her most treasured keepsake is a golden DIY trophy that she received her sophomore year by her ASL instructor.

Citlali’s favorite thing to do in the Wenatchee Valley, aside from the Apple Blossom Festival, is to watch the variety of sunsets and sunrises the valley produces throughout its seasons. Her proudest moment to date was her participation in the Sign Idol showcase her sophomore year where she performed a variety of songs in American Sign Language. If Citlali could trade places with anyone for a day, she would trade places with Malala Yousafzai. Citlali feels she should represent the Wenatchee Valley because throughout her life in the Valley, the rich agriculture and opportunities in the area have allowed her and her family to achieve the American Dream and appreciate the core and culture of Wenatchee. She believes she could represent the giving qualities the Wenatchee Valley possesses.
