(Wenatchee, WA)…A local running club in the Wenatchee Valley is hosting its annual run/walk Thanksgiving morning. NCWLIFE Channel’s Eric Granstrom caught up with one of the event organizers.
If you feel you need to earn your turkey dinner Thursday, how about a walk/run to start the day? Run Wenatchee is hosting its annual Turkey On The Run event Thanksgiving morning at 9 o’clock. Joel Rhyner is one of the event organizers. “It’s a 5K and 12K run/walk. We go out of Rotary Park, head up Western Avenue to Springwater, and the Springwater to Woodward where the 5K-ers turn around there,” said Rhyner. He added, “the 12K-ers go all the way up Number 1 Canyon to the end, then turn around and go downhill all the way back down to Rotary Park at the finish.”
Rhyner says this is a fundraiser for the Women’s Resource Center, Columbia Valley Girls On The Run, and the Wenatchee Running Club. He also says it’s a food drive so they ask participants and non-participants alike to bring non-perishable food items to help out the local food banks.
Turkey On The Run has been going on for 8-years and Rhyner says it’s fun for everyone. “The last few years we’ve had over 1,000 participants…it’s a family event, we’ve got costumes. People from all over the country are in the Wenatchee Valley for the Thanksgiving weekend who participate,” said Rhyner.
Motorists need to be aware of the volume of people who will be in and around Rotary Park Thanksgiving morning starting at about 7:30. There are no road closures, but Rhyner says with the number of runners and walkers, it chokes down several of the local streets until they finish up around 10:15 or 10:30.
