Alpenhof Fire at 5 acres outside Leavenworth

LEAVENWORTH — The Alpenhof Fire, which kindled Sunday afternoon in brush and timber above Leavenworth’s Icicle Road, reached five acres in size by Monday morning and faced suppression by a state Department of Natural Resources team.

The DNR and U.S. Forest Service took over operations Sunday evening from local fire districts, and contributed hand crews and air resources to encircle the fire, burning up a steep slope toward Icicle Ridge

The fire was within sight of Icicle Road homes but was not an immediate threat to private property, supervisors said.

The fire caught about 3 p.m. off Wedge View Lane, a residential drive near the Icicle Ridge Trailhead, about three miles southwest of downtown Leavenworth. Its cause was under investigation.
