An electrical problem is the suspected cause of a fire at the Almira Pre-K and Elementary school Tuesday that eventually destroyed the entire school.

Firefighters from throughout the region responded about 4 p.m. to the fire in the Lincoln County town about 20 miles east of Coulee City.

There were no injuries and classes had already been cancelled Tuesday because of a power outage at the school.

The fire burned through the school into the evening before eventually spreading to the gym, which was also completely destroyed.

School officials had earlier reported an odd smell at the school believed to be coming from an electrical room.
