WENATCHEE — The driver accused in a Nov. 16 hit-and-run that injured a Wenatchee woman is now charged with vehicular assault.
Timothy B. Shales, 57, of Wenatchee remains in the Chelan County jail after his arrest on Nov. 19. Wenatchee police say he struck the woman with his white pickup while she was in a crosswalk at Fifth and Emerson streets, after he spent four hours in a nearby tavern.
Parking lot security video allegedly shows Shales arriving at the tavern about 1 p.m. in a white pickup truck, and leaving about 4:55 p.m. The woman was struck about 5 p.m. by a white pickup, police said, and a damage to the truck allegedly matched debris found at the scene.
When interviewed, Shales allegedly lied to police about his whereabouts at the time of the incident. In addition to vehicular assault, Chelan County prosecutors charged him Tuesday with felony hit and run and making a false statement to police.
