A cold front will move in over Northcentral Washington today bringing a change in our weather with clouds, a chance for showers and much cooler temperatures. The current air mass is very dry across the region, so it will take some time for the atmosphere to moisten up which it will do throughout the day and especially this afternoon. The added cloud cover, rain and cooler temperatures moving in aloft will result in a dramatic decrease in temperatures. The Wenatchee Valley can expect cloudy skies today with a 20-30% chance of light showers with afternoon highs in the lower 70’s.
The weather forecast for Thursday is calling for mostly sunny skies but with the slow progression of the cold front, temperatures will be below normal into the upper 60’s.
Unseasonably cool weather will continue into Friday and Saturday as a cold and deep upper level weather system is still expected to traverse the Inland Northwest. Model agreement remains quite good that Friday will be the coolest day as the core of the upper level low is expected to blanket all of Washington by afternoon. Afternoon highs on Friday are only expected to climb into the upper 50s to mid-60s.
On Saturday, the low is expected to shift into central Montana but unsettled and cool northwest flow will bring another day of unseasonably cool weather with highs Saturday in the lower 70’s.
By Sunday, the trough will move even further east with high pressure ridging poking over the entire Inland Northwest. This should bring stabilized and warming weather conditions with only a chance of precipitation expected over the northern tip of the Idaho Panhandle and extreme Northeast Washington. Temperatures will begin to rebound Sunday with high temperatures near 80 degrees.
Monday through Wednesday next week, there is very good weather model agreement that the ridge of high pressure will continue to amplify rapidly over the Pacific Northwest. This will also result in significant warming and surface temperatures climbing steadily. Under mostly sunny to sunny skies expect afternoon highs on Monday in the mid 80’s, with temperatures climbing to near 90 degrees on Tuesday.
