Wenatchee Football Camp

14 Teams and 750 Players in Wenatchee Camp

WENATCHEE, WA – Over 750 football players from 14 high school teams throughout the state are in Wenatchee this week for the Wenatchee Football Camp. Panther Head Coach Scott Devereaux says it’s a good chance for football and conditioning in some pretty hot weather…

Devereaux says there’s a mix of light contact drills called 7-on-7 and then full contact scrimmages each day…

Campers are staying at Wenatchee High School, Pioneer and Orchard Middle School and Orting’s football team is staying at the Beehive Grange.  We’ll have more on the 2018 Wenatchee Panthers coming up tomorrow.

WCL Home Run Derby is a Splash in Port Angeles

The West Coast League Home Run Derby certainly had a different flare to it in Port Angeles last night. The 11 participants, one from each team in the North and South Division selected to the All Star Game, were shuttled by boat to a barge anchored off of Hollywood Beach on the Port Angeles waterfront. The goal was to hit baseballs over the “fence”, which was a cork-line stretched in the water. They called it the Saltwater Splash Down.

The AppleSox representative was Jeremy Yelland. The video is courtesy of the Lefties Facebook stream and the call is by Port Angeles play-by-play announcer Brandon Erickson…

The contest would come down to a tiebreaker between the Lefties’ Ron Brown and Cody Hawken of the Corvallis Knights. And it would be the home town representative that would win it…

The West Coast League All Star Game is tonight with the first pitch at 6:35. Wenatchee’s Cory Bafus will be the starting pitcher for the North. Also representing the AppleSox are Cory Meyer and Mason Morenco. You can watch the game streamed live on the Port Angeles Facebook page.

Harper Wins MLB All Star Home Run Derby

The Major League All Star Home Run Derby was last night in the Nation’s capital. Fittingly, the home town Washington National’s Bryce Harper won the event with a final round, final blow to edge Chicago’s Kyle Schwarber.

The midsummer classic is underway. Seattle has four representatives including Nelson Cruz, Mitch Haniger, Jean Segura and Edwin Diaz. The 89th Midsummer Classic, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., is being televised nationally by FOX Sports.
