A Rock Island man accused in the July beating death of his wife will be represented by a new attorney at his March murder trial.

Ului Teulilo, 68, had asked the court in a letter to replace his court-appointed lawyer, John Beuhler, because he did not believe Beuhler had his “best interest as a priority.”

The court granted the request and appointed Jeffrey Barker to the case.

It is not immediately clear if changing lawyers will change his scheduled trial date. Teulilo’s trial already has been rescheduled twice.

Teulilo has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his wife Peggy at the couple’s travel trailer where they lived.

At first, because she had been beaten so badly, deputies thought the 68-year-old woman had been shot.
