AppleSox Fall to Kelowna, Out of Playoff Chase

KELOWNA, B.C. – The Wenatchee AppleSox fell to the Kelowna Falcons last night by a score of 15-to-1. In the process, despite my math, it looks like their hopes of the post-season are gone as well…
According to the West Coast League, no matter what happens in Kelowna tonight, Wenatchee has no chance of making the playoffs. They say if Victoria beats Portland, the HarbourCats advance to play Bellingham. If Victoria loses, Kelowna will advance whether they win or lose to Wenatchee tonight.

Let’s check the Les Schwab Scoreboard from last night…
Andrew Feist was 2-for-3 with a solo home run to lead Corvallis to a 2-0 win over Yakima Valley. Cameron Haskell and four other pitchers combined on the 7-hit shutout.

Only 3 of the combined 8-runs in the game were earned between Walla Walla and Cowlitz as the two teams combined for 9-errors on the night. The Sweets came out on top as Nick Nyquist went 4-for-5 with a run and 2-RBI’s.

Hunter Vansau hit a grand slam home run to lead Victoria to a 13-6 win over Portland. Jaxxson Fagg also delivered a 3-run home run for the HarbourCats.

We should mention that Dan Pruitt was 3-for-4 with a 2-run home run in Kelowna’s 15-1 win over Wenatchee. Jake Fischer also went 3-for-4 with 2-runs and 4-RBI’s for the Falcons.

Victoria Can Clinch Tonight, Kelowna Still Alive

So here we go, one final night of the regular season and it all comes down to this for a post-season berth in the WCL’s North Division…
Yakima Valley plays at Corvallis at 6. At 6:35, it’s Cowlitz hosting Walla Walla; Wenatchee at Kelowna; and Portland at Victoria.

Wenatchee 12U Baseball Falls at World Series

The Wenatchee 12-U baseball team was blanked in the first round of bracket play at the Cal Ripken World Series Monday 10-0 by Pacific Southwest…
The Pacific Northwest representatives now face Southwest today at 5 o’clock in the Iron Bracket. A win would put Wenatchee into the Iron Bracket Championship against the winner between Middle Atlantic and Phenix City, Alabama.

Rangers Top Mariners Despite Zunino 2 HR’s

Despite Mike Zunino hitting two home runs, Joey Gallo matched him with a couple dingers himself as Texas beat Seattle 11-7 to take 2 of three from the Mariners…
Marco Gonzalez got roughed up, allowing 7-runs on 11-hits in 5-innings, including a couple home runs. Seattle was able to cut the Ranger lead to one with a 4-run 7th inning but Texas rallied for 4-runs in the bottom of the 7th off reliever Zach Duke.

Seattle limps into Houston having lost 9 of its last 13 games tomorrow for a 5:10 first pitch as James Paxton faces Justin Verlander.

At Least the A’s Didn’t Win Again…

The only good news for Mariners fans is that Oakland also lost last night..
Khris Davis hit his 32nd homer of the season, but the Dodgers scattered 4-runs across the board to down the Athletics 4-2.

Tyler White’s 2-run home run in the top of the 8th was the difference for Houston as the Astros beat San Francisco 2-1.

Shohei Ohtani’s 3-run home run sparked a 7-run first inning as the Angels beat Detroit 11-to-5.

So now up to date with today’s loss, the Mariners trail Oakland by 2.5-games in the American League Wild Card race.
