Wenatchee, Wa.- While the potlines at the Alcoa Wenatchee Works remain idle, discussions are continuing on the local level concerning the smelter’s future. 400 employees were laid off when production was curtailed in 2015. The Company announced in January that there has been no decision yet to restart. In the meantime a local working group continues to meet to discuss how the local economy deals with the situation. Tracy Yount (Pronounced: Yunt) with the Chelan County PUD facilitated the most recent meeting held earlier this week .
Alcoa officials stated in their year end financial report that they planned to meet with Chelan County PUD sometime during the first quarter of this year to discuss the matter. The Company also reported a 25 percent increase in revenue in 2017.
