WENATCHEE- For the next three months participating Wenatchee Police officers will begin sporting full beards or goatees. It’s in recognition of “Movember”, an annual fundraising event to address men’s health including prostate and testicular cancer, along with mental health and suicide prevention.

The Movember Foundation has funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world in the last 13 years, and hopes to “reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 percent” by 2030, according to its website.

The Wenatchee Police Officer’s Guild, and individual officers, will make donations to a local charity on behalf of this fundraiser.

At the end of November the charity selected to receive the collected donations will be announced.

Clean shaven photographs will be compared with an end of “Movember” photographs to determine the winner.

This is also a three month trial period to determine whether to allow officers to wear facial hair on a daily basis.
