(Prince George, B.C.)…The Wenatchee Wild ground out a solid defensive effort and held on to defeat the Prince George Spruce Kings Tuesday night to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven division semifinal series in Prince George, BC, Canada.
After a scoreless first period, the Wild were the first team to crack the scoreless tie when AJ Vanderbeck scored at 16:29, knocking home the rebound of a Jasper Weatherby wraparound attempt. Wenatchee padded their lead when Jimmy O’Brien tipped a Slava Demin pass into the back of the net at 8:21 of the third. Prince George pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and converted with :46 seconds left to close the gap to one, as Kyle Johnson knocked home a rebound. Wenatchee won the ensuing faceoff, killed off some of the remaining time by pressuring in the offensive zone, and then fended off the last push from the Spruce Kings to win the game 2-1 and take a 3-0 series lead.
Wenatchee now leads the best-of-seven series three games to none, and can close it with a win in Game 4 on Wednesday at 7pm. If necessary, Game 5 will be played Friday at 7pm.
