A crash involving a pickup and a big rig yesterday resulted in two deaths and the temporary closure of US 97 about 2 miles South of Omak. State Troopers say it happened around 1:35 PM at the Armory Road intersection when the driver of a pickup truck tried to drive across the highway but was struck by the semi, which was driven by a 77 year old Waterville man.

The pickup was struck by the larger truck ending up off the roadway. The truck ended up blocking both lanes of traffic forcing the road’s closure for several hours. The driver of the pick-up was dead at the scene. A second person was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital where the victim died.  Their names were being withheld pending family notification.
