WENATCHEE- Plans to build an emergency operations center in Chelan County are on the fast-track now that State funding has been secured.
Sheriff Brian Burnett commented on the project prior to the Legislature’s passage of the Capital Budget last week.
“I believe the House and the Senate approved us for one million dollars, we received money from the previous budget cycle to do the engineering and drafting piece of it,” Burnett said, adding that the building could house the Emergency Management staff as well as large numbers of responders during multi-county events such as wildfires.
“Our fire management teams could come in and operate out of that center with technology and a facility that would host that–centrally located would be a big key it would be in the Olds Station area,” Burnett said on Wake Up Wenatchee Valley with Dan Kuntz.
Adoption of the Capital Budget was delayed until after the Legislature came to an agreement on the unrelated Hirst water issue.
