LEAVENWORTH- Firefighters are continuing the remaining containment efforts needed to stop new growth on the 541-acre Chumyon Fire located nine miles northeast of Leavenworth.

The Chumyon Fire started on September 30th as a US Forest Service conducted prescribed burn. Officials say it accidentally slopped over onto private Weyerhaueser timber land.

Pending favorable conditions, crews may conduct approximately 100-acres of burnout operations designed to remove grasses and woody debris that could allow the fire to continue spreading toward the south.

Incident Commander, Jesse Stone said Mop up efforts are on-going and that they expect full containment soon.
