Officials release identity of inmate found dead in cell


WENATCHEE- An Okanogan man was found dead in his jail cell Tuesday afternoon at the Chelan County Regional Justice Center.

Captain Jim West of the Wenatchee Police Department tells us about the sequence of events.

“Yesterday at about 2:30 p.m. RiverCom received a call from the Chelan County Regional Justice Center in regards to an inmate that was unconscious and not breathing” West said. “Staff there had started CPR and EMS was dispatched to respond. We’re continuing the investigation then once we get all of that in place we will put out more information for the public and the media.”

The deceased man has been identified as 31-year old Jeremy Lavender of Okanogan. Captain West says Lavender was originally arrested at the Walmart in Chelan back on September 3rd for theft and possession of a controlled substance.

A special investigation unit consisting of detectives from area police agencies and the Washington State Patrol is investigating the death.
