Tigers Roll Over Crusaders 78-17
WENATCHEE, WA – The Entiat Tigers advanced to the State B Tournament Friday with a convincing 78-17 win over Riverside Christian. Natalya Paz scored 16 of her game-high 24-points in the third quarter to lead Entiat. The Tiger’s defense was smothering, forcing the Crusaders into 30-turnovers on the night.
Paz Leads Entiat with 24-points and Stout Defense
Paz said she knows defense is key. “I’ve learned from my coach that defense is definitely key to games. I think from my freshman year when she started coaching me that I developed from there.” Paz, now a senior, says it’s been a great run for her fellow classmates. “It was just a lot of hard work that we put into practice. Especially from coach pushing us hardest. It definitely paid off in the end, especially for all these seniors and this group of kids (underclassman) coming up. They’re all just awesome!”
Entiat Coach Laurie Pipkin says Paz’s ability on defense helps spur the rest of the team. “She loves the game. She’ll stand up with the coaches and see what we’re talking about. She’s always in the gym practicing and getting ready and she wants to win so bad. Last year’s last game (at regionals) was a heartbreaker and she definitely wanted to get back in her senior year and get to State.”
Pipkin says she hopes for these seniors that they stay for more than just a day at the State Tournament. “I want them to be able to experience State. I would really love to get that first win so they can experience what I think State is, which is more than just one day in Spokane.”
Tiger’s 15th Consecutive Win by 40 or More Points
Entiat earned its 20th win of the season Friday. The 61-point margin of victory marked the 15th consecutive game when the Tigers have outscored their opponents by 40 or more points. In fact, in the 20 wins, Entiat’s average margin of victory has been 39-points.
