ROCK ISLAND- Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal reports the arrest of an East Wenatchee woman following a scuffle with a sheriff’s deputy Saturday afternoon.

The Sheriff says the deputy made contact with the woman who was smoking marijuana with a man in a parked car near Rock Island. The Deputy told the occupants that it was illegal to use marijuana in public.

The Sheriff says the woman refused to cooperate with the Deputy when he approached the vehicle and gave him a false name when he asked her for her ID. It was learned that the woman, identified as 23-year-old Alex Zufall, was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The Deputy reported the woman became combative and struck him several times as he tried to place her into custody. The Deputy also discovered a white crystalline substance he suspected to be methamphetamine and items which appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s purse. She was booked for the warrant, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, and giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

There were no injuries in the altercation and the suspect was transported to the Chelan County Jail without further incident.
