WENATCHEE- Construction is ready to begin on a new luxury hotel on three acres of vacant property along Wenatchee’s Riverside Drive.
Hilton Hotels is developing the property on the North side of the Pybus Market which was previously occupied by Wenatchee City Public Works.
“I met with the developer yesterday and in fact the fence went up yesterday, and within a month there should be a lot of construction activity going on down here,” said Steve King, the City of Wenatchee Community Development Director. “We are pretty excited.”
The hotel will be a Hilton Garden Inn with about 176 rooms, with official plans being submitted next week.
“It is huge [for the city], our hotel vacancy rates have been down and our costs have been up,” King said. “Lodging is a big deal and to have it hear in downtown, connected to the Convention Center via the bridge and right next to Pybus Market is just perfect. It is what the city envisioned many years ago when we vacated down here and now it is coming to fruition.”
King said the construction process should be about 15 months before the doors will open to the public. The hotel is an addition the city welcomes, among others that will kick-off downtown development.
“We have another apartment complex going in up here just North of here next to the Riverside Nine area, so that is good with our housing crunch we are experiencing,” King said. “We have a lot of people knocking on our door asking us questions.”
