Conservation Project Permanently Protects Cashmere Canyons For Hikers

CASHMERE- A recent purchase by the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust will create a new trailhead and protect the land near Hay and Nahahum Canyon. The $500,000 purchase permanently protects the land near Cashmere.

Curt Soper, Executive Director of the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, says the 1800-acre land purchase took years of planning and would not have been possible without the co-operation of the private landowners.

After receiving the half-million dollar payment from the Land Trust, the landowners then purchased 400-acres of adjacent property four miles up Nahahum Canyon and put a conservation easement on that land as well.

Soper says with the purchase, the public will now be able to enjoy the diverse habitat, shrub steppe and forest that the area has to offer.
