2017 Beneficiary: WENDY SKALISKY
The beneficiary this year has been selected. We will be raising money for Wendy Skalisky, a well-known community member, and cancer volunteer, to aid her in her fight against breast cancer. Wendy has spent much of her professional life, donating wigs to cancer patients, grooming their hair and making sure that they feel beautiful as they are undergoing lifesaving treatments. In 2016 she was presented with the Wellness Place Legacy Award for her commitment to serving families in their darkest hour. This is our opportunity to give back to such a caring volunteer in our community, so she can focus solely on getting better.
“For 24 years, Wendy Skalisky has been a champion for cancer patients in our region. She is an unquestionably selfless person. At Wellness Place, a regional cancer support non-profit, we refer those enduring treatments to Wendy. She schedules private appointments with patients in her salon – free of charge – where she can offer a new haircut, head shaving, or wig styling session. She understands how you look can greatly affect how you feel. Wendy preserves dignity and has offered hope to many who have had difficulties coping with exterior changes that cancer brings. Wendy has helped countless cancer patients. She is now facing her own battle with cancer – and it is time to give back to someone who gives so much to others. I invite our community to join together in support of the Skalisky family in their time of need.”
